The gallery is pleased to present two films over the course of two weeks, one by Carmen-Sibha Keiso and one by Alli Melanson, beginning Thursday, January 15. The films will be on view at the gallery throughout regular gallery hours and additionally by appointment.

Peephole, 2021, was filmed over a two week period in November 2020, while Carmen-Sibha Keiso was one of approximately 400,000 people who underwent a mandatory hotel quarantine upon their arrival in Australia throughout 2020 and 2021. On arriving at the deployed hotel, travelers were told that if an inhabitant of a hotel room were to step out beyond the parameters of their doorway, that they would be arrested by security. This video was cut from an hour of footage predominantly filmed through the peephole of Keiso’s assigned hotel room at the Sheraton Grand Hotel in Sydney, Australia.

In One Foot in Front of the Other, 2024-2026, Alli Melanson revisits material taken during her time walking the Camino de Santiago. The footage was taken about halfway through the walk in a hostel lounge area with couches where guests would gather, where she quietly documents two people – one trying to relieve the pain of the other from injuries incurred while walking. They appear to be strangers, their timid conversation playing out across subtitles, as they negotiate with one another asking more or less, "does this hurt?". Melanson’s somewhat voyeuristic position is partially eclipsed by a pair of feet that do their own kind of dance, progressively relaxing into sleep. The videos are refilmed with a phone camera horizontally, creating another layer of removal and duplicating her point-of-view, this time from inside her bedroom a year and a half later.
